Honeymoon in Hawaii

Last week Jasen and I returned from a week long honeymoon in Kauai, Hawaii.  We had such an amazing time.  Here are some of the things we did:

Look out onto Waimea Canyon State Park (the Grand Canyon of Hawaii).

Journeyed through Kokee State Park on a crazy, muddy trail.  Check out these amazing views we had on our trail.

Side note: where ever we went, there were chickens.  They roamed wild and free on the island.

We drank coconut juice straight from the coconut, saw a blow spout, and ate very hearty Hawaiian pancakes.

The highlight of our trip was a 8 mile hike along the Na'Pali coast to huge 300 foot waterfall.

I ate 10 guavas during the hike.  The trees were everywhere!

Our breaths were swept awake with the Hawaiian views and sunsets

We toured the Fern Grotto, a cliff covered in wet ferns

We kayaked and took a boat cruise down the Wailua River.

We also spent time at the beach - snorkeling, body boarding, and getting sunburned.

And, of course, we relaxed.

Big Cottonwood Canyon

The 4th of July weekend Jasen and I sent much of our time at the lakes in Big Cottonwood Canyon.  We have developed a love for this canyon that is so close to our house.  And guess what?  I now have my very own fishing pole and have been fishing too.  It's no longer just Jasen bring in the fish.

The Fourth of July

This Fourth of July our family had a BBQ with my uncle Rob and his family.  We spent the night playing the card game Scum and enjoying each other's company.  My uncle's family had just been given a new kitten - I believe this is their first cat ever!  I love, love cats, so this only added to the joy of the night.

No fireworks were allowed in the Highland neighborhood since the mountain side next to the city was on fire.  To get our pyro fix, we watched the mountain flames from the backyard

Jasen's New Hobby

This summer Jasen took a fly fishing class, and so he has been hitting the mountain streams and lakes whenever he gets a chance.  On Saturday we went to to the mountains together - He fished, and I worked on my photography skills :)

Jasen was only able to catch this little guy
